From Nikita...It was my absolute pleasure to perform a recital in Shrewsbury, Dr Barritt made every effort to make it smooth and enjoyable for everyone in the concert hall, including me as a pianist. The audience was attentive and seemed genuinely interested in classical music, which made my Q&A session very natural and easygoing.I express my deepest gratitude to the Shrewsbury audience, and it will be my pleasure to be back there again. DANIEL LEBHARDT October 2022

From Daniel...It was a great pleasure and honor for me to join the impressive roster of pianists who performed for the Shrewsbury International Piano Series. The team lead by Pete Barritt is very professional, and their hospitality and kindness ensured that I felt at home immediately upon arriving. The acoustics and the atmosphere at St. Chad`s been a joy to work with, and very much enjoyed playing on the Kawai piano as well. Thank you to the whole audience who joined me and came with open hearts and ears, your presence and support made it truly a memorable weekend for me, and I would love to return one day to give another concert!

We enjoyed listening to Maria Linares this afternoon, a varied programme, all beautifully played. I'd not heard her before but Maria is certainly a talented pianist. John

MATTHEW McLACHLAN October 2023

A few comments about the Matthew's recital..
Beethoven - Delicacy of touch outstanding. Sympathetic interpretation.
Chopin - Excellent portrayal of all the drama evident in the Scherzo. Lots of intricate fingerwork securely handled and the mood contrasts provided lovely variation.
Scriabin - Strong sense of lyricism with sublime Legato as well as the more forthright punchy sections. There seemed to be total understanding of Scriabin and his intentions in this outstanding performance.
Liszt - He coped admirably well with the technical demands of this picture in sound. We were transported into the landscape with the sensitivity of his approach to this piece. Bold and strong chordal textures sat very comfortably next to passages of sheer melodic beauty.
Matthew is obviously a great talent and one to watch for in the future. I was only sorry that we missed the Scriabin Preludes!

KYLE HUTCHINGS November 2023

After his recital, Kyle wrote...
I am never interested with the superficialities like the instrument or any sort of showmanship (If I could play in darkness that would be wonderful!) - I don't see myself as a fantastic pianist. I just have this deep need to convey what a composer is trying to say with honesty and integrity. In Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert, I feel all of humanity is there. The purpose of music is to communicate things which we all feel. How these genius composers can encapsulate joy, fear, love, warmth, darkness etc just makes you want to cry and marvel at the same time.

SHUNTA MORIMOTO December 2023

Shunta writes...

Thank you very much for today! I really enjoyed performing to the wonderful people in Shrewsbury!

From an audience member...

I have just left the concert. Wonderful. Mr Morimoto seems to be a very charming young man. To come here from Japan at just 18 years if quite phenomenal. He graced St Alkmund’s with his playing today. It would be wrong to say I have been to very many piano recitals - maybe 15 or so - but I find his playing to be electrifying. The precision, the deftness, the phrasing - quite outstanding. And he so clearly enjoys performing.

"It was a joy to meet such a gifted, charming and relaxed artist as Elisabeth. I don't know what the opposite of prima donna is but she's it."
